The Ekiti State Police Command has refuted a circulating video alleging that bandits were plotting assaults on Ekiti State University (EKSU) and Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology, Ikere-Ekiti (BOUESTI), labelling it false, deceptive, and aimed at stirring tension among citizens.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abutu Sunday, explained that the Command carried out a detailed inquiry and established that the footage was created through Artificial Intelligence (AI).
According to the police, the material formed part of a fabricated claim meant to incite needless alarm throughout the state.
After the video spread online, the Commissioner of Police, CP Joseph Eribo, directed the deployment of sufficient personnel to key areas, including border communities, educational institutions, both public and private establishments, places of worship, and other identified vulnerable points.
The Command encouraged residents to stay composed and continue their regular activities, assuring that security operatives are fully equipped to uphold order and safeguard lives and property across Ekiti State.
CP Eribo urged the public to remain compliant with the law, support security personnel, and quickly report any unusual behaviour or events to the nearest police formation.
He also provided emergency contact numbers: 08062335577 and 09064050086.
