The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested at least three suspected gunrunners allegedly involved in supplying arms and ammunition to bandits operating in Kaduna State.
According to a statement from the agency, the arrests were made during coordinated sting operations in Igabi and Kachia Local Government Areas.
One of the suspects, a 30-year-old man, was intercepted along the Nnamdi Azikiwe Bypass in Igabi while transporting two AK-47 rifles, one PKT machine gun, over 200 rounds of live ammunition, and four empty magazines concealed in sacks of maize.
Two others were apprehended at Doka village in Kachia, along the Abuja–Kaduna Expressway, while trafficking three AK-47 rifles to bandits in a Volkswagen Golf car.
Governor Uba Sani Commends DSS
Reacting to the development, Governor Uba Sani commended the DSS for what he described as a “decisive and professional operation” that reinforces the state’s resolve to root out criminality.
“There will be no hiding place for bandits and other criminal elements under our administration’s peace and security model,” the governor declared.
Through the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Sule Shuaibu, Governor Sani also expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Director-General of the DSS for their continued support in strengthening Kaduna’s security architecture.
Uba Sani praised Kaduna peace model
The governor further noted that his administration’s non-kinetic peace model has significantly reduced crime rates across the state. He warned criminal elements to desist from actions capable of undermining Kaduna’s hard-earned stability.
Meanwhile, the DSS confirmed that investigations into the arrests are ongoing, assuring that the suspects will be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The agency reaffirmed its commitment to curbing arms trafficking and preventing Kaduna State from becoming a safe corridor for illegal weapons.
