Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, has appealed for calm and political harmony across Kano State, urging residents to set aside partisan differences.
Shettima delivered this message during a condolence visit to the family of the late Galadiman Kano, Alhaji Abbas Sanusi, who passed away two weeks ago.
The visit and remarks were confirmed in a statement issued by Mustapha Muhammad, Chief Press Secretary to the Kano State Governor, on Saturday, 19 April 2025.
“Please and please I plead with you not allow politics to divide you, you should be united,” Vice President Shettima implored at the deceased’s home.
He further emphasized Kano’s significance: “Kano is the heart of the north and I am from North,” before praying, “May Allah bring unity among us.”
In welcoming the Vice President, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf expressed profound gratitude on behalf of Kano’s government and its people:
“We thank you so much for coming to commiserate with us over the death of our father, grandfather. We pray for Almighty Allah to take you back home safely.”
A representative of the Sanusi family also thanked Shettima for his solidarity and voiced hope that this moment of loss might foster unity among local political figures:
“We keep praying, may the demise of Galadiman Kano become an avenue for unity among the political leaders in Kano. We saw every representative of the political parties. We are grateful to the governor who was here at the funeral and came back to condole us again, now he is here with Vice President, we are grateful.”
