The Borno State Police Command has recovered an unexploded ordnance beneath a telecommunications mast in Maiduguri, averting a potential explosion and risk to public safety.

The incident was disclosed in a statement issued on Monday by ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, spokesman of the command.

Police said the suspected explosive device was discovered at about 11:06 a.m. on December 15, at Chuskon in the Federal Low Cost Area of Maiduguri.

The report was received through the Divisional Police Officer of ITE Police Division after residents noticed a suspicious object beneath the network mast.

Commissioner of police Naziru Abdulmajid ordered the immediate deployment of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear team from Base 13, Maiduguri.

The EOD-CBRN team cordoned off the area and rendered the device safe in line with standard operating procedures.

Preliminary findings revealed that the ordnance, with two protruding wires, was deliberately planted to cause damage.

Police also recovered a hand plier, a T-shirt, and a pair of shoes at the scene.

No casualty was recorded, and normal activities later resumed in the area.

After the operation, police officers sensitized residents on the need to report suspicious items promptly and cooperate with security agencies.

The commissioner directed divisional police officers across the state to intensify patrols and strengthen security around critical infrastructure, including communication facilities.

The command reassured residents of its commitment to protecting lives and property, urging the public to remain vigilant as investigations continue.
