Former governor of Anambra State and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has cast his vote in the ongoing governorship election in the state.
Obi voted at Polling Unit 019, Umudim Akasi, Agulu Ward 2, in Anaocha Local Government Area, at exactly 11:46 a.m.

Speaking with journalists after voting, Obi expressed concern over the worsening state of Nigeria’s democracy, lamenting the prevalence of vote buying during the election.
“Our democracy is deteriorating, and unfortunately, those who benefit from bad governance are fueling it,” he said. “It’s sad that we still experience vote buying. When an unemployed person collects ₦30,000 for his vote, he is selling his school, hospital, job opportunities, and future. This is very worrisome.”
He compared Nigeria’s electoral practices to other West African countries, saying he had never witnessed such levels of vote buying elsewhere.
Obi emphasized that though he was not on the ballot, he remained a Labour Party member and fully supported the party’s candidate, Dr. George Moghalu, while wishing all contestants well.
