Veteran Kannywood actress Mansura Isa has spoken candidly about the collapse of her second marriage, revealing that it ended in betrayal and deceit linked to a multi-billion naira contract.
In an emotional interview on the BBC Hausa programme Mahangar Zamani, which she featured in alongside fellow actress Fati Mohammad, Mansura said she believed she was marrying for love—only to realise later that her husband had ulterior motives.
“I married for love. You know what they say, love is blind. But it turns out he had a different agenda, not real love,” she said.
Marriage tied to N4bn contract ends in deception
Mansura explained that she met her now ex-husband through a relative while handling a business deal in Lagos.
Because she lacked a representative in the city, she trusted the man to oversee the process. Their relationship quickly became romantic, and he proposed marriage. She accepted, believing he was sincere.
“We got married at night, and by the next morning, he had travelled back to Lagos,” she said. “At the wedding, he brought a contract agreement and asked me to sign that he could manage a N4 billion deal on my behalf since he was now my husband.”
According to Mansura, after the signing, he took over communications related to the contract and completely cut her off. “I never saw him again. He stopped answering my calls and eventually divorced me,” she added.
She later learned that he told people in Lagos he had forgotten he was married. The divorce only came after pressure from those who confronted him.
Fati Mohammad defends actresses’ marital struggles
In the same interview, actress Fati Mohammad pushed back against the stereotype that Kannywood actresses are unstable in marriage.
She said many men pursue actresses out of lust and leave once their desires are satisfied.
“People assume these women are too used to luxury to endure marriage, but that’s not the case. Marriages collapse for many reasons, not just in the entertainment industry,” Fati said.
Mansura’s previous marriage to fellow actor Sani Danja had been widely admired in the industry.
The couple, who share four children—Iman, Khalifa, Sultan, and Sudais—parted ways before her second, now-failed marriage became public in mid-2024.
Despite the betrayal, Mansura said she has accepted her fate and is focused on moving forward.
