Sir Kashim Ibrahim University, Maiduguri, will graduate 2,294 students, including 26 first-class degree holders, at its maiden combined convocation scheduled for January 3, 2026.
The convocation brings together graduates from the 2022/2023, 2023/2024, and 2024/2025 academic sessions, marking a major academic milestone for the young institution.
Babagana Gutti, vice chancellor of the university, disclosed this during a press conference in Maiduguri on Thursday, describing the event as a reflection of academic resilience and steady growth in Borno State’s higher education sector.
According to him, the university produced 523 graduates in the 2022/2023 academic session, with five students earning first-class honors.
He said the 2023/2024 session recorded 489 graduates, including 10 first-class degree holders drawn from four faculties.
Gutti added that the 2024/2025 session produced the highest number of graduates, with 1,282 students, out of which 13 graduated with first-class degrees.
He said the convocation marks nine years of academic service and celebrates the university’s contribution to human capital development, community growth, and national progress.
As part of activities, Gutti said a pre-convocation lecture will be held on January 2, 2026.
The lecture will be delivered by Michael O. Faborode, former vice chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.
He said the lecture is titled ‘Insecurity and Environmental Fragility in the Lake Chad Basin Areas: Education, Health and Sustainable Agriculture Tripartite to the Rescue.’
Gutti also announced that the ceremony will feature the conferment of degrees, presentation of prizes, and the investiture of a new chancellor.
He disclosed that Babagana Umara Zulum, governor of Borno State and visitor to the university, approved the appointment of Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, the Ooni of Ife, as the new chancellor.
He said the investiture of the chancellor will precede the award of degrees in line with established academic tradition.
